Nourish Your Baby with Glass Baby Bottles

Nourish Your Baby with Glass Baby Bottles

glass_baby_BottleIn generations past, the only baby bottles mothers could buy were made of glass. But as concerns over glass breakage arose, and the prevalence of plastic products skyrocketed, manufacturers began to explore the use of plastic as a material suitable for baby bottles. Today, plastic baby bottles are the norm, with very few glass baby bottles readily available.

But recent reports over the safety of the plastic used to make baby bottles have many mothers going back to glass baby bottles of old in an effort to protect their little ones from potential harmful chemicals and diseases. What’s all the fuss associated with plastic baby bottles?

BPA or bisphenol A. This chemical is used to treat polycarbonate type plastics of all types as well as other materials—from baby bottles to water bottles to tin food cans. It would seem that this chemical is everywhere, and we weren’t really worried about it until lab tests started to show that high levels of BPA were leaching form the bottles and cans into the food or liquid being held in those containers. What’s worse, scientists have speculated that BPA could be linked to increased risks of cancers (prostate and breast in particular), endometriosis, and may even contribute to early onset of puberty.

At this point, there are still debates being held in labs and government organizations about whether the levels of BPA are high enough to cause alarm. But do you really want to take the risk?

If you’re like many concerned parents, you’ll want to avoid this chemical if at all possible. Even if it’s not harmful to your baby, it may be harmful to wildlife and other environmental systems, and who wants to contribute to problems like that?

Today, there are many stylish, eco-friendly glass baby bottles on the market, making the old-time choice of glass attractive and safe. Today’s glass bottles are often wrapped in a colorful sheath of silicone to prevent the bottle from breaking and to give you and your baby something to grip during feeding time. These BPA-free options are healthier for your baby, they’re dishwasher and microwave safe, and they’re fun to use. You can pair these glass baby bottles with either silicone or latex nipples.
